Edward Dewey is a character from the Resident Evil series of survival horror games.

Story[]

Resident Evil[]

Edward was responsible for rear security along with Rebecca Chambers. While he was Bravo Team's primary pilot, that position was taken over by Kevin Dooley during the events of the games, while Edward served as co-pilot. He did, in fact, appear in the original Resident Evil as the hand Joseph picks up in the beginning cut-scene.

Edward Dewey's name and his position in S.T.A.R.S. was listed in the English language manual of the original Resident Evil for the PlayStation and other source materials, but was the only S.T.A.R.S. member never to appear in the game. It was originally inferred that the disembodied hand found by Joseph Frost in the opening cutscene was Edward's, but a retcon in the GameCube version established that the remains found by Joseph were actually Kevin Dooley's, a previously unmentioned character.

Resident Evil Zero[]

Edward makes his only on-screen appearance in the prequel Resident Evil Zero, where he has a prominent role early in the game. While searching for an escaped fugitive (Billy Coen), he is fatally wounded by zombie dogs in the forest and finds his way into the nearby train, the Ecliptic Express, before dying in front of Rebecca. He is later encountered as a zombie by the player.

Trivia[]

  • Edward Dewey's surname comes from an unused character proposed for the original Resident Evil, simply named Dewey. In contrast to Edward, who is a muscular Caucasian, the original Dewey was a thin African-American, modeled after actor Eddie Murphy, who was designed to serve as the game's comic relief.
