Geryon

Geryon.

Geryon is a character from the Devil May Cry series of action games who appeared as a boss in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening.

Profile[]

Geryon is a demonic horse who can control time to a small extent. He also serves as one of the many gatekeepers of the Temen-ni-gru, an ancient demonic structure sealed away by Sparda nearly 2000 years ago.

Story[]

Geryon was once a horse of legend ridden by countless heroes, until ingesting demonic essence corrupted and empowered him with limited control over time. He leads a ghostly hearse, equipped with a heavy armament.

When Dante first steps upon the bridge in the Underground Arena, Geryon engages him in a game of "Chicken" until the bridge collapses and they fall into a colosseum. After Dante defeats Geryon, Dante receives his soul as the Quicksilver attack Style.

Trivia[]

  • Geryon's design seems to be based on the Irish myth of the Coiste Bodhar, otherwise known as the 'death coach', where the driver would sometimes be a Dullahan.
  • Geryon's name might be inspired by the Geryon of Greek myth, who was a giant with three bodies joined to one pair of legs. He appears in the Divine Comedy as a bear-armed dragon with a man's face and a scorpion's tail and is the Monster of Fraud.
  • Geryon, along with the other gatekeepers of the Temen-ni-gru, represents one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Geryon represents the Sin of Greed.
