Juli (ユーリ, Yūri?) and Juni (ユーニ, Yūni?) are characters from the Street Fighter series of fighting games. They made their first appearance in Street Fighter Alpha 3, where they are a pair of brainwashed female assassins belonging to M. Bison's group of Elite Guards, "The Dolls". Their names translate into July and June in German.
In their initial appearance, the arcade version of Street Fighter Alpha 3, Juli and Juni are a pair of sub-bosses whom the player face prior to the final battle against Bison. The player face Juni and Juli at the same time in a two-on-one fight similar to the Dramatic Battle mode in the original Street Fighter Alpha. The two characters are unlockable in the arcade version, but they have no storyline in the actual game. The characters are actually head-swaps of Cammy (who previously appeared in Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold and X-Men vs. Street Fighter), with the explanation given that Cammy belongs to the same unit as Juni and Juli (Bison's Elite Guard). However, the characters have their own special and super techniques, Juni's attacks in particular are mostly based upon Cammy's appearance in the Vs. series, including an aerial version of Spiral Arrow, and a version of push-blocking called "Psycho Shield". In the American instruction booklet for Alpha 3, Juni's Spiral Arrow and Cannon Spike were named (seemingly erroneously) as Psycho Crusher and Psycho Shot, respectively.
Juni and Juli are the only members of Bison's Elite Guard (aside from Cammy) to appear as playable characters in-game, there are ten other members of Bison's Elite Guard, but they don't appear as playable characters in the game.
When Alpha 3 was ported to home consoles, the designers made Juli and Juni part of the default roster and gave both characters their individual storylines and endings, with Juni assigned to track down Ryu and Juli assigned to track down Cammy.
Juli's history was fleshed out in the home versions, with the addition of T. Hawk to the cast. In T. Hawk's in-game storyline, he searches for a missing girl from the Thunder Foot tribe named Julia. Julia is revealed to have become Juli, who was kidnapped by Shadaloo and brainwashed into an assassin. The designers of the home versions originally intended for Noembelu (a non-playable member of the Dolls) to be the girl that T. Hawk searches for, but Juli was used for this role instead.
All of the Dolls were teenage girls of around 16 years old who were captured by Shadaloo, and brainwashed to be M. Bison's assassins and bodyguards. Cammy was a female clone of Bison, but was the same age and acted the same way as the others, though it was later revealed that she could control the Psycho Drive. They were completely loyal to Bison, acting and talking like robots, they were high-ranking members in Shadaloo, only lower than Bison and the other Grand Masters: Balrog, Vega and Sagat.
Eventually, Cammy broke free from Bison's mind control (apparently with help from Dhalsim) and managed to do the same for the others. When Bison appeared, they collectively attacked him. Bison informed Cammy that she was his clone, and that if he died, she and the other Dolls would die as well. Cammy fought against his psychic probing, and rescued the Dolls from Bison's control with the Psycho Drive. Cammy led the Dolls out of the Shadaloo base and fell unconscious, rendering the Dolls in a state of amnesia. Cammy was later found by Vega, and taken to the Delta Red H.Q. by him.
Super Street Fighter IV
In Super Street Fighter IV, it was revealed that the dolls were still alive but unconscious, strapped to strechers and were being placed in capsules, it is still unknown if they regained their memories.
Juni makes an appearance in Cammy's storyline, she (Juni) was hospitalized and was being looked over by Cammy. When she wakes up (due to Cammy's pet cat jumping onto her), she is greeted by Cammy. It is presumed that Juni has amnesia, as Cammy comments (if she retained any memories, it would be her memory of Cammy).
In T. Hawk's ending, Rose tells him that Juli is now a shell of her former self, but that she will tell Hawk where Julia is if he insists. Following Rose's directions, Hawk finds Juli in a near-catatonic state in a cabin in the wilderness, being cared for by an elderly couple. As Hawk draws near, Julia shows no sign of recognition and continues to stare into space.
- Juli and Juni both appear in the crossover game Namco x Capcom. In this game, Juli almost regains her memory by saying, "I am... Juli... a... Hawk?" right before her demise, due to the full effect of her mind control.
- Both Juni and Juli made a cameo appearance in M. Bison's ending for SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos.
- Both Juni and Juli appear as cards in SNK vs. Capcom: Card Clash.
- Juni and Juli, along with Cammy and fellow Doll partner Enero, appears in a billboard (dressed as stewardess) in a background stage for Street Fighter X Tekken.
In the Udon comics, Juni was kidnapped directly from Germany. Supposedly, her brainwashing is the most complete of all the Dolls and her first mission, ordered by Bison to test her loyalty, was to murder her own family - a mission she accomplished flawlessly. Juni's last appearance shows Cammy thigh-pressing her into the back of Juli in SF 2 Turbo # 11. It is unknown what becomes of her after the island they were fighting on erupts, but it is assumed that the other Street Fighters brought her with them to safety.
Juli is still sought after by T. Hawk, along with Noembelu. Here, she is the daughter of a German doctor who provided care for the Thunderfoot Tribe. The doctor was found murdered, and Juli disappeared.
In Street Fighter II Turbo #12, it shows that Juli is freed of her mind control, and sets out to restore the Thunderfoot village, along with T. Hawk and Noembelu.
- In Street Fighter Alpha, Udon Street Fighter comics and other artworks, Juni has a bit of her hair almost covering her right eye.
- In Street Fighter Alpha 3, as well as the UDON comics, Juni is portrayed with orange hair and brown eyes. However, in the Super Street Fighter IV OVA, Cammy's SSFIV ending, and her cameo in Street Fighter X Tekken, Juni is shown with blonde hair and blue eyes.
