Ryu-SFXT-shoryuken

Ryu striking Kazuya with a Shoryuken

The Shoryuken (昇龍拳, Shouryuken, "Rising Dragon Fist") is a physical special attack in the Street Fighter series of fighting games. It is mainly used by Ryu, Ken, Akuma and other Street Fighter characters trained under the same style. It was introduced in the original Street Fighter as one of Ryu's three special attacks at the time, the other two being his Hadoken and Tatsumaki Senpukyaku. The Shoryuken is considered one of the series' most famous attacks, alongside others such as the Hadoken and Tatsumaki Senpukyaku, and has received a large amount of parodies and references in media.

Description[]

The move is a jumping uppercut in which the user spins and rockets upwards with some horizontal movement as well, knocking the opponent to the ground with much damage. This move is an excellent anti-air move, as it usually hits nearly all aerial assaults, and in the hands of good players, this move is extremely deadly.

Different types of Shoryukens[]

Shoryuken[]

Shouryuuken (Rising Dragon Fist) - A fierce rising uppercut in a spiraling motion with some horizontal movement in which Ryu rockets upwards whilst performing a spinning uppercut that knocks his opponent to the ground.

Ken's version of the Shoryuken envelopes his fist in flames and does a few more hits than Ryu's, though without the knockback factor.

Goshoryuken[]

[7]

The Goshoryuken (Strong Rising Dragon Fist) is said to be the original Shoryuken, which is a more powerful variation of the regular Shoryuken. While this was the standard Shoryuken at the time the art was founded, the lethality of the move increases when the practitioner embraces the Satsui no Hadou. This Shoryuken knocks the foe high into the air and slices its foe as the fist is rising up. A well-placed Gou Shoryuuken can be fatal to an opponent – it has the ability to kill anyone in one stroke if the practitioner is skilled enough.

Shou'oken[]

Sakura developed her own variation of the Shoryuken, the "Shou'oken", in which she runs at her opponent and finishes with an uppercut. It doesn't get as much height as a typical Shoryuken. Her Shoryu Reppa-inspired combo Midare Zakura is three of these Shou'oukens back to back.

In the VS Series, Sakura's Shou'oken includes an aura force-field in front of Sakura to allow for more hits.

Koryuken[]

Dan uses his own laughable version of the Shoryuken, the "Koryuken". It is possible that he learned this move during his brief training under Gouken.

Once in a while, when performing this move, Dan may flash white, granting him invincibility during this move.

Shining Circuit Shoryuken[]

[19]

Shining Circuit Shoryuken is Cyber-Akuma's version of the Shoryuken. This version of the Shoryuken is much faster, does a lot of hits and is fiery red, not purple like normal Akuma, which is slower with less knockdown.

Shoryu Reppa[]

[20]] The Shoryureppa (Rising Dragon Rending Destruction) is a series of two or three Shoryuken that progressively cause more and more damage to an opponent each time he is hit. It was introduced in Super Street Fighter II Turbo. This attack is used mainly by Ken, but many other characters have created their own versions of this attack.

[21]+[22]

Shinryuken[]

The Shinryuken (Divine Dragon Fist) is a powerful Shoryuken that corkscrews vertically into the air, causing a vacuum effect that sucks in the opponent and strikes him multiple times. It was developed by Ken, the only user of this move. Ken created this attack to honor Gouken. The number of hits can generally be increased by tapping the kick buttons. This move appears in a largely altered form as Ken's Ultra in Street Fighter 4.

Messatsu Goshoryu[]

The Messatsu Goshoryu (Murderous Strong Rising Dragon) is Akuma's stronger version of the Shoryu Reppa. While this move does not scorch the opponent, a well-placed Messatsu Gou Shoryu can instantly kill an opponent with the least amount of effort.

Shin Shoryuken[]

The Shin Shouryuuken (True Rising Dragon Fist) is an attack that made its debut in the Street Fighter III series(1997.) It was first used by Ryu as one of Ryu's Super Arts and later made its return in the Street Fighter Alpha series. and Street Fighter IV. Ryu delivers a powerful Shoryuken to the opponent's mid-section, which then follows up with another equally powered strike, which is then branched with the fully performed Shoryuken uppercut, but is much stronger.

Scramble Gou Punch[]

[38]

Scramble Gou Punch is one of Cyber-Akuma's Hyper Combos. Improved version of Akuma's Messatsu Gou Shoryu. A lot more powerful and comes out faster, possibly the faster hyper in the game.

Deadpool's Shoryuken[]

Deadpool does a shoryuken as a launcher for starting air combos in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Trivia[]

  • The move has been the subject of a very famous rumor and hoax revolving around Ryu's mistranslated quote in Street Fighter II; "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance". Sheng Long would later become one of the most well known hoaxes in video game history.
